The Touch of the Master's Hand

"Twas battered and scared, and the auctioneer
Thought it scarcely worth his while
To waste much time on the old violin,
But he held it up with a smile.
"What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
"Who'll start bidding for me?
A dollar, a dollar - now who"ll make it two _
Two dollars, and who"ll make it three?

"Three dollars once, three dollars twice,
Going for three". . . but no!
From the room far back a gray-haired man
Came forward and picked up the bow;
Then wiping the dust from the old violin,
And tightening up the strings,
He played a melody, pure and sweet,
As sweet as an angel sings.

The music ceased and the auctioneer
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said: "What am I bidden for the old violin?"
And he held it up with the bow;
"A thousand dollars - and who'll make it two?
Two thousand - and who'll make it three?
Three thousand once, three thousand twice
And going - and gone," said he.

The people cheered, but some of them cried,
"We do not quite understand -
What changed its worth?" The man replied:
"The touch of the masters hand."
And many a man with life out of tune,
And battered and torn with sin,
Is auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd.
Much like the old violin.

A "mess of pottage," a glass of wine,
A game and he travels on,
He's going once, and going twice -
He's going - and almost gone!
But the MASTER comes, and the foolish crowd,
Never can quite understand,
The worth of a soul, and the change that's wrought
By the touch of the MASTER'S hand.

  1. Pure utter-wor(l)d-ly perfection.

    Inspired me to clean.

So, far cleaning glass and what a 'pane' that is.

I was thinking of running some more 'ads' for my house...

My husband said, "More than meets the eye."

He sure was right about 'that.'

I was thinkin' 'more along the lines' of "One of a kind."

  2. 144 panes...

Haven't cleaned them all, so far...

then once 'the front's' are done...

288 total panes built-in windows to see out of this 'house'...

    so far

'was' this, or 'is' this, a lame attempt 'to work' or what?

'Words' and music and lyrics are fun...and we take them sometimes entirely too, seriously.

    Don't yo thank?

Especially the serious ones, using words to make their living...and even more serious..those that hire and depend upon the ones that do that special 'chore' like toil.

Just writing, or typing, or singing, or working your fingers 'longa' keyboard, or bloin' a horn...

While the worth of 'real life' and a good knight's sleep 'lives on the soil.'

Hey, with a little effort, if I could have ever afforded 'that belief' or could efford not to eat...

LOL...ain't THOSE WAFFLES A WONDERFUL THANG!!!!!

  3. Hey, with a little e-fort, if I never had to eat...

  4. Wow, that 'useless knowledge' is sure out of date....

Paul passed away a few months ago...

Guess he's racing and playing 'that game' in heaven now.

Sure is hard to keep up to date...

Racing, racing, racing...'til our 'number' comes up...and then when it's time to go...sure hope I'm ready.

  5. Tell me you know Jane.

Do you know how embarrassed I'd be to meet face to face with anyone I've bad-mouthed 'with type.'

    LOL

Ever read 'that voice of reason?'

    Ever watch 'big brother?'

What kinda toys did you play with when you were young.

I actually enjoyed making mud pies, and playing in empty cardboard boxes...

  7. ...meanwhile I know "useless knowledge" is getting just a bit carried away.

This is a by far masterful poetry...what other's do yu have stored away.

    What's next?

Guess I'm the only one here, at this particular place, except for you.

  8. You know some could practice for hours and hours, for days on end and never perform a perfect piece...

    Takes passion...

    A learned skill...

    Not unlike Thunder and Lightening...

    Something from above?

  9. Now, the so-called 'new' generation has "Sponge Bob Square Pants"...

I always enjoyed "B.C." 'cause I really don't like to read.

But "CATHY" was pretty good today.

    ...is 'babble'...

Trying to explain emotion or feeling without notes or chords...yet seems

notes and chords are exactly the same thang

If no one pays attention, doesn't much matter...either way.

But math always counts, steady and true...

  16. Time for another 'Masterpiece,' dear Carol!

I 'check in' here at least once everyday and usually just read the 'Useless Knowledge.'

But it's usually fun, and sometimes I even learn something...even if it is 'useless.'
