The Silver One
in the nighttime sky
in the darkness between two days
the silver one goes sailing
flying hand in hand with her sister stars
crying
because the life of man
is an empty dream
- anonymous -
I don't know why this poem touches me so. I found it in some obscure book when I was 13 years old. It had such an effect on me that I memorized instantly, and all these years later, it still makes me sad. And I feel the truth of it, especially in my life.
Sounds of Silence - Lyrics
Artist - Simon and Garfunkle
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

Hear some more 'white people' "ROOTS"...

Jane banned me, and I knew she would anyway, so I went wild, 'cause it didn't matter to me how much I might matter to her.
She's true north, and I'm not true south, but...
Somewhere in the middles...nice place to visit.
Gave me goosebumps...

Eventually, maybe I'll get another 'round-to-it...and listen to all of your poetry,' or read, or watch the line-up and watch every last one of your You-Tube videos...
I sure do like Trichoone (sp?), too!!!
By the way, my 'round-tuit was stolen along with the rest of my 'jewelry' and precious, mostly broken pieces of bangles and thangs...
That little old oak box along with a hand-blown vase are all I have left, aside from memories of the best sex, and a man I never knew I wouldn't keep.
But, my dreams of him to this day are so vivid...that's all I need.
He was a couple years younger than me, and ended up dumping me after 7 years for a little girl that was 10 years younger than him.
They now have 2 daughters, and I only have one.
Anyway, he was one of the sweetest men I've ever known...don't tell my husband, LOL!
Actually my husband knows.
ReplyDeleteWe both lived with 'mates' for 7 years before we met.
And the most curious thing is that those 'mates' were born on the same day.
"That little old oak box along with a hand-blown vase are all I have left, aside from memories of the best sex, and a man I never knew I wouldn't keep."
ReplyDeleteI call it a case of the "I can't help its"
"Can't never could."
ReplyDeleteThat's a quote from a harbor pilot.
...And what an interesting title and lyrics for a song!
ReplyDeleteI woke up with poetry in my head today and tried to shake it.
ReplyDeleteCarol are you Cat?
It's just a sneaky hunch or some creative thinking, or really just a waste of time...
Or is it?
I'm honored, but not Cat....Cat has a way with pictures. I'm not sure what I have yet.
ReplyDeleteI was pretty sure you weren't, lol!
ReplyDelete"I'm not sure what I have yet."
Of course not, 'cause you never know 'til it's too, late...right?
Are you an Aries?
Nevermind that question.
Is 'nevermind' really 2 words?
That's just a plain stupid question...
'Cause 'Word' always knows.
Well I like that 'Urban Dictionary' and 'Dialects,' too.
Was interesting watching Oprah interview those 'Ranch' girls.
Looked nice on the inside protected from the rest of the world...but never from men.
JMHO
(Oh, by the way, that great sex I had years ago was really just a figment of my imagination.)
I read an article in my local "Independent" newspaper today, about a poet being published before he was dead.
ReplyDeletelolol! I actually talked with a editor with a publishing company who said I'd need to prepare and "anthology", or a series of poems on one subject. I couldn't do it, because the poems reflect, for the most part, what I've lived and experienced. How do you separate out your life? I'll probably put a volume of everything together for my children. I understand that can be done in a hardback copy fairly inexpensively.
ReplyDeleteI haven't noticed a 'photo credit?'
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm guessing...
Maybe Bama?
Ever consider the alliance as some kind of 'co-op?'
Like a 'picture book' with poetry instead of captions.
Just wondering off here on one of my many tangents.
I was thinking of maybe a softbound, 'coffee table' book.
Would be especially nice in particular settings. Like in professional offices like, say for instance where people (or clients) are nervous and need something for distraction. Say, for instance, if you were getting plastic surgery...or 'shrink' wrapped...you know, like for instance a doctor like Dr. E.
You might consider asking your doctor(s) for advice. You know they're usually interested in helping people, and making money.
Some doctors once paid a small fortune for some of my brother's paintings. Of course that was a long, long time ago.
Anyway if you get 'more' ambitious might be worth a little self promotion.
My brother worked for a golf course. Just in case you were thinking he was a patient, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou know how 'conditions' can sometimes 'run' in families.
'Cause by now I'm sure you know I'm nuts!
If you do decide to get yourself published in a 'hard' or 'soft-bound' way. Let me know how much a copy might cost. I think it might be a beautiful thing, a real work of art...even if it was only 'black and white' type.
Sometimes it's nice to turn this computer off. I especially dislike the constant buzzing and glare.
Oh, not an empty dream, an open well of them...

Lovely...v\
No need to learn an ancient language nor a currant one...
Yet for understanding...
No less than needlessness...
we are all the same

BamaCat banned me....finally!!!
ReplyDeleteGosh darn it, I meant no harm, really!
Go figure?
B.C. and 'The Green Eggs and Ham' poet...will always be my all time favorites.
Of course, I can be a nu-sense.
Hope I don't bother you, too?
I wonder if this...

...is where Dodge got the name for 'that car?'
It sure was a good one...
One of the best, by far!
"I am a rock"
ReplyDeleteSo, gosh darn dense...
Still can't even curse.
Ain't no whisper it's fireworks, that sex organs play...

Sure wish teachers were at 'Liberty' to tell the world...
It's not 'black and white' or purple...yet 'tis of theeeee.
FREEDOM is and will always need some 'outlet.'
Under control of course of those that we lead into this mine field.
ReplyDelete'Til there is time, come of age perhaps I 'twas a mighty hawk once I bore...every ounce of energy I had left to preserve.
Reminds me of toast.
