One step at a time...baby steps,
Until I find the path to peace.
Cautious at each and every turn;
Afraid to reach for love's release.
Yet, ever patient, there you wait
With your arms spread open wide,
To welcome me back to life once more,
And hold me close at your side.
And when I trip and stumble,
You call my name, urging me on.
You remind me with your every word
That we weren't meant to be alone.
You wipe away the tears that fall;
You press my head to your chest.
I hear your heartbeat, steady, strong;
And my soul finally comes to rest.
