Unlikely Hero

BY CAROLE NICHOLS

Your life's been troubled, you no stranger to pain;
Yet, you've not been afraid to start over again.
You come to me now, with the wisdom of a sage;
Helping me through the hurt and the rage.

You speak quietly, never preach or criticize;
You show me life as seen through your eyes.
No matter the loss from the hand you have played,
Your belief in tomorrow has never swayed.

You saw my soul laying, bare and needing;
You saw my heart, torn apart and bleeding.
You know where I've been, know where I'm bound,
For you've taken that ride on life's merry-go-round.

You show by your actions, you show by your deeds,
You've tasted a mountain of life's bitter seeds.
Yet your dreams stay constant, to yourself you're true,
You found inner strength to carry you through.

You take my hand, and with a kindness that doesn't lie,
You plead with your tears to not let my dreams die.
You ask nothing from me, yet you constantly give,
Filling me with laughter and hope, you make me live.

An unlikely hero, you're a friend I'll long treasure;
Your faith in me has a price beyond measure.
When I see you, I see a soul so beautiful and rare,
From the depths of my heart, I'm so glad that you care.
