You Can't Go Back
BY CAROLE NICHOLS
All that's left are faded memories
Of a time when life was good,
Of a time of fun and innocence,
I'd go back there if I could.
Twas a time of carefree joy,
Of dangling from Daddy's knee,
Bouncing as he laughed and sang
"The Yellow Rose of Texas" to me.
Twas a time of comforting security
In the circle of Mommy's arms,
A time when my hardest decision
Was Fruit Loops or Lucky Charms.
Twas a time for fertile imaginings,
Of dragons and magical unicorns;
Of princes and heros and adventures,
A time when life had no stinging thorns.
Twas a time when living was easy,
Each day a wonder to behold,
A time of great promise, simple pleasures;
A time when nothing ever grew old.
Yet like a flower whos time is spent,
Those days will come no more.
The time of childhood dreams are gone;
You can't go back through time's door.
