Dance of the Fire Flies
BY CAROLE NICHOLS
Dusk creeps upon the evening air,
Melting the sky in a purple hue,
The fire flies dance in shadows,
As I lie here thinking of you.
In the twilight, all alone,
In the coolness of the grass I hide,
Reaching for the tiny flickers of light,
Wishing you were here at my side.
Like the fire flies, you danced upon my skin,
With you, I flew for a while,
I lay in the grass, watched you glow,
And I gave all I owned for your smile.
I wonder where you are tonight,
In what haven you linger and light;
A sigh tumbles forth as I watch the dance,
The shadows fall into night.
