Cyber Place
BY CAROLE NICHOLS
It begins in the darkest silence,
As she sits there, still, and all alone;
The house is quiet and her tears fall,
Where has all the love gone?
The guilt and the pain and anguish,
Eat at her soul and she knows it's wrong;
She's done nothing to deserve this life,
And she yearns for a place to belong.
The shutters of her mind are breaking,
The spirit it houses makes it's run;
She pours her heart to the keyboard,
For in her world there is no shining sun.
But there are kindred souls that reach her,
In the rivers that house her cyber space;
And once in a while they make her smile,
Over the miles in this strange new place.
On the endless web, she speaks her dreams,
The faceless friends sigh and agree;
They ask oh when can we finally meet?
And she can't, for she's not free.
So she sits all alone in the dark of night,
Knowing that cyber life is not real;
Yet a little is better than nothing,
And the glowing screen is a sun she can feel.
