Heartache
BY CAROLE NICHOLS
water colors raining;
merging and melting,
blending with life's tears,
till all is muted and blurred,
except for the scars on the heart.
deep, soul-wrenching wounds,
visible in naked eyes;
lost, alone, vulnerable,
heart aches, flames of pain.
hearts so helpless, adrift,
beating a funeral dirge....
tolling with a sharp pang,
echoing into mournful silence.
no one to hear,
no one to care,
heart aches, even so scarred,
longing to once more go,
into the cool, crisp spring,
yearning for love's song
to flow into the wounded soul,
and fill the empty void.
