Back To the World
BY CAROLE NICHOLS
Look at her just standing there,
Skittish as a newborn fawn.
Her life stamped across her face;
An open book, she waits for dawn.
She lifts her eyes to the lightening sky,
The last trace of tears wiped away;
A deep drawn breath of frosty air,
She prepares herself for a brand new day.
She lowers the walls around her heart,
To feel the beauty of nature's song,
Hoping to capture a piece of the wonder,
Needing to find a place to belong.
As the sun breaks over the mountain,
Setting the world all aglow,
She smiles as it touches her warmly;
She knows where she must go.
Back to the world of chances,
Back to the world of hopes and dreams;
For that, after all, is life and love,
And that is where her heart leans.
