The Admiral's Promise
BY CAROLE NICHOLS
In the ever midnight space,
Through all the desk bound years;
My soul was never as alone
As now, amid bitter tears.
A part of me belongs to you;
A part of you is mine.
Your most human Vulcan heart
Will live for all my earthly time.
Did I tell you that I loved you
Before you died to save us all?
In my mind I still can see
The handsome Vulcan standing tall.
You gave me back my ship;
Said you had no ego to bruise.
And mine, puffed up as it was,
Never thought that we could lose.
You speak to me in dreams,
Through time and space you say,
"There are always alternatives,"
There must have been a better way!
I feel you wait for me;
At my side you still stand.
I will return for you, my friend
On that new Promised Land.
Our minds are one but separate;
The Vulcan link is strong.
Live long and prosper, Spock.
Your wait will not be long.
