White

BY CAROLE NICHOLS

White is our world
On this sleepy, lazy day,
Lying together, hand in hand,
Surrounded by the quietness,
The peacefulness of white.

The gentle white of the clouds,
Passing slowly overhead,
Giving respite from the sun bright,
Soft and cottony, full of dreams,
Both constant and ever-changing.

The sleek white of the sails,
Reflecting on the crystal lake,
Sharp and pristine, so clean,
Dancing on the water
White water ballet.

The white of the sand
Which holds the heat
Both of bodies and sun,
Grains that make a warm bed
And clings as does our love.

All is pure and white,
Passing slowly into night
Blushing pink with the setting sun,
And we sigh as only lovers sigh
For the night is freckled by countless stars
Glowing brilliantly white.
