Poetry from the Heart

BY CAROLE NICHOLS

....'twas long ago and fading now,
so empty was my heart and arms;
then your kindness did shine down,
lighting my soul with your simple charms.

....this heart now beats a happy song;
arms still feel when you're not here.
my world is colored, now, and bright;
such is the power of your cheer.

....'tis like the ugly duckling tale,
the swan he did first time see;
the crystal lake you take me to,
gives off a lovely reflection of me.

....I see myself now, through your eyes,
I've seen the change that's come about;
no longer afraid to stumble and fall,
for you stand there, hand ever out.

....no longer am I unsure of my path,
for you guide me with a glowing saber;
even into the mountains, craggy and rough,
walking beside you is never a labor.

....you move me with your open heart,
allow me to love as I've always wanted;
giving all of myself, asking naught,
you receive it all and are not daunted.

....truth has been your sword, dear one,
your words have been my trumpet's call;
love is your shield and it grows ever strong,
as I give you my heart, my soul, my all.

....you're a beacon to one who'd lost her way,
what you've given to me is more precious than gold;
a road map of words that will guide me home;
straight to the berth of your loving hold.
