Wintertime
BY CAROLE NICHOLS
The flowers and greenery are gone now,
Leaving our world in a barren starkness.
The sun has gone away far too soon,
Covering my heart with lonely darkness.
A chilling frost covers the ground
That we once walked and played upon;
And the wind cuts deep and biting
As I walk the pathways of life alone.
How wonderful was the sultry warmth
Of the summer that we loved and shared.
How beautiful nature's fragrant dress;
It's depth and promise many layered.
I don't want to feel the winter
And the bitter cold it brings.
My heart and mind still yearn
For you, the flowers and the green.
