River of Life
BY CAROLE NICHOLS
The river's always changing,
It sometimes moves so slow;
The currents gentle and pleasant,
Just going with the flow.
Savoring all it touches,
Well defined within it's wall;
Bubbling with life and at peace,
Cool and inviting to all.
It can be a raging torrent,
Sweeping everything in it's way;
Wild and willful, muddy, bitter,
A painful price you sometimes pay.
It's swift and often reckless,
Rolling and churning with such force,
With the deadly power to alter lives,
It's direction unknown, changing course.
The river can make or break you,
We all have to take that ride;
We take our chances on what it brings,
There is no place you can hide.
And it flows on with sure promise
Of reaching it's end at the sea;
There it leaves whoever it's carried
To find their way in eternity.
