Embracing the Wind

BY CAROLE NICHOLS

All that you get when you choose
To reach with your heart to embrace the wind;
Is a brush of warmth, a fleeting caress,
And an emptiness that will not end.

For all the love you have to give
Can't hold the breeze that ever moves,
From place to place, without a home,
Escaping with precious dreams you lose

Hot tears flow, melting the skin
Spilled from eyes that have lost their dream,
Glimmering into the face of the wind,
Anguished drops, an endless stream.

But oh, to have been touched,
Held by the breath of the sky
Was such a wonderous special time,
And for a moment didn't you fly?

Yet knowing the wind's never still,
Knowing it's spirit forever is free,
Would it not have been better to hold your dreams,
Than to embrace a love that can never be.
